Sonny Weems scored a team-high 27 points, including four free throws in the closing seconds, as the Colorado 14ers held off the Austin Toros 114-111 at the Broomfield Event Center in the NBA Development League semifinals Saturday night.

Colorado advanced to the D-League’s best-of-three championship series, where the 14ers will play the winner of Monday’s semifinal between the Dakota Wizards and Utah Flash.

Weems, on assignment from the Nuggets, shot 4-for-4 at the free-throw line in the final 15 seconds to help secure the win. Eddie Gill, in the D-League from the Nets, added 23 points and seven assists and Josh Davis grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for the 14ers.

Malik Hairston scored a game-high 37 points for Austin, the Spurs’ D-League affiliate.

AFA beats Ohio State in lacrosse.

The Air Force men’s lacrosse team took advantage of a snow-filled game, defeating Ohio State 9-6 in a Great Western Lacrosse League game at Cadet Stadium.

It was the Falcons’ first win over Ohio State since 1997, ending an 11-game skid against the Buckeyes.

Air Force (5-6), playing in its home opener, got three goals apiece from K.J. Landgraf and Ridge Flick. Griffin Nevitt added two goals for the Falcons.

Ohio State (6-6) was led by Doug Ruhnke and Joel Dalgarno, who each scored two goals.

Wyoming’s Jonelle Martinez carded a final-round, 4-over-par 76 to win the Mountain West Conference women’s golf championship at the Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif. She finished at 5-over-par 221 over three rounds, two strokes ahead of New Mexico’s Britney Choy.

Colorado State’s Brianna Espinoza finished seventh at 12-over-par 228. New Mexico won the MWC team title, 14 strokes ahead of Texas Christian.
