BOULDER — An inmate at the Boulder County Jail required medical attention after jumping off a second-story railing Tuesday, officials said.

The inmate’s identity hasn’t been released, but Cmdr. Rick Brough said the woman, 53, is being held on a one-year sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic offenses.

Brough said the woman climbed up a metal pole to the second level of the jail and “somersaulted” off. She landed on her back and was taken to Boulder Community Hospital for treatment. Her condition wasn’t immediately known.

Brough said the inmate had just completed a disciplinary hearing in the jail, and told other inmates she “didn’t want to be in the jail any longer” before leaping off the pole.
