PHOENIX — To make room for tonight’s starter Franklin Morales, the Rockies placed right-handed reliever Ryan Speier on the disabled list.

Speier is dealing with a injury to his left hamstring. He said it flared up at the end of spring training and reached a point Saturday where it was affecting his performance.

“No one ever really feels completely healthy, but I became a detriment to the team. They had to make a move,” said Speier, whose leg injury caused him to adjust his throwing mechanics.

The move comes after Speier struggled in his past two outings, and he has only pitched twice in the past eight days.

Morales joined the Rockies from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday and was activated today.

Speier’s injury spared pitcher Matt Belisle from outrighted to Colorado Springs. Belisle has also struggled in the bullpen.

The Rockies face the host Diamondbacks tonight at 7:40 p.m.

More details will follow this evening.
