A bipartisan team of lawmakers have filed last-minute bills to help colleges raise money and lower their costs.

House Bill 1362, which would give community colleges and Metro State the authority to form tax districts to raise money, passed unanimously out of committee Thursday.

“It allows some community colleges to keep a revenue base without raising tuition further,” said Rep. Mike May, R-Parker.

The other bill, to be introduced by Senate President pro tem Betty Boyd, would allow universities to make minor changes to building projects without seeking legislative permission. Seeking approval costs time and drives up costs, May said.
