A Denver school that has been the focus of myriad changes over the years is looking at becoming the district’s third innovation school under a law passed last year.
Teachers at Cole Arts and Sciences Academy in north Denver will vote through today on whether to become an innovation school, allowing the school freedoms from certain state laws such as teacher tenure.
Fifty-one teachers who will work at the school next school year will vote, with ballots to be counted this afternoon.
A majority is needed to send the proposal before Denver’s school board. A 60-percent majority is needed for waivers from the collective- bargaining agreement.
