A couple faces charges in connection with the theft of more than $300,000 worth of dog-themed jewelry after the loot was recovered during a traffic stop in Alabama recently, Parker police said today.
A 25-year-old New York man, Jack Arenas, has been charged with possessing the stolen jewelry taken in the February robbery of a 64-year-old Kansas City salesman in town for a dog show. He was held up by assailants wearing ski masks at about 8:30 a.m. outside a Starbucks at 9700 Parker Road.
An arrest warrant has been issued for a second suspect, 20-year-old Vanessa Ramirez, whose hometown was not immediately.
The jewelry, fashioned to look like specific dog breeds, included earrings, necklaces, tie tacks, pendants and bracelets, police said.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation learned of the robbery in Colorado and had the salesman identify his merchandise, Parker police said today, but investigators still have not proven Arena and Ramirez were ever in Colorado.
The pair faces charges of possessing stolen goods, but not the actual robbery.
