AURORA, Colo.—An Aurora man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of stabbing his roommate to death during an argument over crack cocaine.

An Adams County District Court judge handed down the sentence Tuesday to 38-year-old Sofio Cruz-Rosales. Jurors in February convicted him of second-degree murder in the June 2008 killing of 36-year-old Abelino Lopez-Cruz.

An arrest affidavit indicates Cruz-Rosales told investigators that he and Lopez-Cruz were drinking beer at their apartment when Lopez-Cruz accused him of stealing his crack cocaine.

Cruz-Rosales went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed Lopez-Cruz in the chest.

Cruz-Rosales was given credit for 302 days he’s been in jail since being arrested.
