Accelerate Colorado, a group of 100 business, government, higher-education and economic- development officials, is scheduled to hold its annual business mission in Washington, D.C., April 27-29. The group promotes federal support of the state’s top industries and economic development for Colorado.

The trip will focus on issues related to aerospace and defense, bioscience, and transportation.

“This is our opportunity to bring a large, influential group to Washington to meet one-on-one with our congressional delegation and other important leaders to discuss our industries and issues,” said Wendy Mitchell, president of the Aurora Economic Development Council. “We are competing with 49 other states to get a piece of the 2010 federal budget, in addition to stimulus funds, contracts and projects that would have a significant impact on our state’s economy.”

Constituents of this year’s trip include representatives from Cigna HealthCare, Xcel Energy, Pfizer, Lend Lease Communities, Forest City, Boeing Co., Lockheed Martin, SolarTAC, Abengoa Solar, Kaiser Permanente and the Jefferson Economic Council. Andy Vuong, The Denver Post
