The Colorado Eagles are no longer perfect in the Central Hockey League playoffs — and it took the host Mississippi RiverKings two overtimes to hand the Eagles a 6-5 loss Thursday night.
The Eagles started off with a 4-0 lead, chasing the CHL’s top goaltender, Kevin Beech, but his replacement, Tyler Sims, energized the RiverKings, who got two power-play goals in the third period to tie the game at 5-5. Mississippi got the game-winner 3:46 into the second OT when Matt Summers took a feed from Jeff Nelson behind the net and scored from the left side of the crease.
Earlier in the day, the Eagles placed forward Fraser Filipic on season-ending injured reserve and signed amateur defenseman/forward Jessie Tresierra.
Cowboys QB suspended.
Junior quarterback Dax Crum is one of two Wyoming players who have been suspended for Saturday’s spring game.
The university issued a statement saying Crum and sophomore center Travis Hillen were suspended for violating team rules.
Senior Karsten Sween will start at quarterback of the No. 1 offense in Saturday’s game.
