Getting your player ready...

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said earlier in the afternoon that he would trade up in the second round if a “valuable” player was available.

He wasn’t kidding. McDaniels dealt the Broncos’ 2010 first-round pick to nab Alphonso Smith, an all-American cornerback from Wake Forest, at No. 37. The Broncos still have a first-rounder obtained from Chicago in the Jay Cutler deal.

The Broncos retained their original second-round pick, No. 48 overall.

Smith intercepted 21 passes during his four-year college career, including eight in 2007 and seven in 2008.
