DENVER—Two Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies helped deliver a healthy baby boy in a Dodge Durango after his parents got caught on U.S. 285 in a spring snowstorm.

Jason and Stephanie Nylund were on their way to the hospital from their home in Bailey, southwest of Denver, early Monday when the road conditions started deteriorating rapidly.

“It was snowing like crazy. … The roads were so bad,” said Jason Nylund.

He was preparing to deliver the baby himself when he spotted two sheriff’s deputies on U.S. 285.

Deputy Sheriff Tony Mayns delivered Ethan Phillip Nylund at about 3 a.m.

Mayns says the baby “just shot right into my arms.”

The Indian Hill Volunteer Fire Department showed up minutes later and escorted the couple to the hospital.
