Green Day sold more than 12 million copies of its last critically acclaimed rock opera, 2004’s “American Idiot.” And so of course we’re excited to hear “21st Century Breakdown,” the latest CD — and another rock opera — from the Bay Area punk-pop trio.

The band announced new tour dates and venues today, including an Aug. 15 stop in Denver at the Pepsi Center.

“21st Century Breakdown,” the band’s eighth full-length, will be released by Reprise Records on May 15. The band worked with uber-producer Butch Vig on the record. The album’s first single, “Know Your Enemy,” is already No. 1 at alternative radio.

On-sale dates have yet to be announced, but we’ll have that information at as soon as it’s announced.
