KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City school board has unveiled two finalists for superintendent, including one from Colorado.

The finalists announced Tuesday are school leaders John Covington of Pueblo, Colo., and Mary Guinn of Tulsa, Okla.

Covington has served as superintendent of the 18,000-student Pueblo district since July 2006.

Guinn began her tenure as the chief academic officer of the 42,000-student Tulsa district in 2004. Previously, Guinn was superintendent for six year in Gary, Ind.

About 18,000 students are enrolled in the Kansas City district.

The finalists will meet Wednesday with community members, district staff and parents. The board could select a new superintendent Thursday.

The district is searching for a replacement for Anthony Amato, who resigned under pressure in January 2008.
