A 53-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday after a crash on the Western Slope.

Sheryl Williams was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson at about 7 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 50, about 9 miles west of Delta, when the bike drifted and hit a guardrail, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Williams, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle down a rocky embankment.

She was taken to Delta County Memorial Hospital, where she died a short time later, the State Patrol said.

Williams was turning through a left curve on a downhill grade when she crashed. Neither excessive speed nor alcohol appears to have contributed to the accident, which remains under investigation, the State Patrol said.
