Colorado State will have to come from behind to defend its Mountain West men’s golf championship. The Rams are in a three-way tie for fifth after the first round at Omni Tucson National Golf Course on Thursday at 7-over-par 291.
Texas Christian, ranked No. 17, is in the lead at 8-under 276, with a seven-shot lead over No. 22 San Diego State.
CSU junior Riley Arp had seven birdies, but he also had six bogeys and is tied for seventh at 1-under 70. The Horned Frogs’ Tom Hoge leads with a 67.
GWLL conference honors.
Three Air Force men’s lacrosse players and one from the University of Denver earned all-conference honors in the Great Western Lacrosse League after a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Air Force midfielder Griffin Nevitt and long-stick midfielder Dan Gnazzo were voted to the first team. They were joined by freshman defender Dayton Gilbreath, who was also voted newcomer of the year. Denver defenseman Dillon Roy also earned first-team honors.
Second-seeded Air Force will face third seed Ohio State in the semifinals of the GWLL tournament today at 5:30 p.m. in Birmingham, Mich.
