Today. Travel back in time to Colorado’s gold rush days during a free family day at the Governor’s Mansion. It’s been 150 years since John H. Gregory found gold near Black Hawk and started the rush to what’s now Gilpin County. See actors playing Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill Cody, learn about gems and minerals, even pan for gold. Music will be provided by the Peak to Peak Chorale and Central City Opera. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Governor’s Mansion at Boettcher Mansion, Logan Street and East Eighth Avenue in Denver.

Sunday. Greg Mortenson’s book “Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace … One School at a Time” is still a New York Times nonfiction best seller after 116 weeks. Mortenson makes his first Denver appearance to discuss his book and take audience questions. The book describes how, after climbing K2 in Pakistan, the author started promoting education programs in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. 2 p.m. Sunday.
