DENVER—The former coordinator of an annual Denver toy drive has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting a teenager.
U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Kelly Farrington of Brighton was acquitted Thursday after a two-day jury trial in Jefferson County Court.
Farrington was arrested last year in San Diego on a warrant issued in Arvada. Arvada police said after his arrest that the alleged assault happened in 2001 but was reported years later.
Authorities initially told reporters Farrington was accused of sexually assaulting a child but later clarified that the charge was sexual assault because the alleged victim was over the age of 14.
Farrington previously coordinated Denver’s Toys for Tots drive. Authorities say the accusation wasn’t related to his work with the toy drive.
