Colorado State’s Zen Brown carded a second-round, 5-under-par 66 and teammate Bryce Hanstad shot a 67 to help the Rams move up two spots to third place in the Mountain West Conference men’s golf championship Friday in Tucson.
Brown’s two-round 139 on the 7,163-yard Omni Tucson National Golf Course lands him in seventh place, six strokes behind leader Steve Saunders of New Mexico. Hanstad and Wyoming’s Phil Henzlik are tied for ninth at 141.
Texas Christian leads the team standings, four strokes ahead of UNLV and seven strokes ahead of CSU and New Mexico.
Roadrunners still perfect at RMAC tourney.
The top-seeded Metro State softball team remained unbeaten in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, beating No. 3 Colorado Mines 9-4 in a semifinal game at Auraria Field.
The Roadrunners (39-10) had defeated No. 4 Colorado State-Pueblo 13-5 in a morning quarterfinal game. Metro State will play in the championship game today against the winner of the other semifinal. Colorado Mines (38-16) and Mesa State (26-18) square off today at 9:30 a.m. in the double-elimination bracket.
Jennessa Tesone’s three-run home run to left field with two outs in the first inning, scoring Amber Roundtree and Kellie Nishikida, gave Metro State an early lead over Mines. Pitcher Christie Robinson (24-4) struck out five in going the distance.
Bircumshaw memorial moved.
A memorial service for Rich Bircumshaw, the voice of the Colorado State Rams who passed away Wednesday night, was moved to a larger venue.
The service, scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m., will now be at Blessed John XXIII Catholic University Parish, 1220 University Ave., just west of the McGraw Athletic Center, in Fort Collins.
The service, which had been scheduled at a smaller funeral home, is expected to draw more people than the chapel would hold.
In place of flowers, donations may be made in Rich Bircumshaw’s name to the Colorado State General Athletic Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made payable to the CSU Foundation, and sent to the Ram Club Office, 101 McGraw Athletic Center, Fort Collins, CO 80523-0120.
