The clouds want to rain; they’re trying to rain; they just need some help, a forecaster says.
“We need a mechanism to get the clouds dripping,” said Bob Koopmeiners, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder. “It’ll come down slow and steady all day, like a Seattle rain shower.”
He predicted that between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., the clouds will let loose.
“I’m hoping it will start raining by this afternoon,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to promise rain and then not get any. Natural rain is better for your lawns.”
Koopmeiners predicted a total of .25 to .40 inches of rain will fall in the Denver metro area by Sunday morning.
“It doesn’t look like a big one,” he said.
Temperatures are expected top out at 45-50 degrees, Koopmeiners said.
In parts of Colorado, rain is already falling, including in Boulder, where a light mist is coming down.
In the mountains a few areas are getting a dusting of snow, Koopmeiners said.
