Two drivers, one a teenage girl from Bailey, died in a head-on crash Saturday in Park County.

Kjersti Anderson, 16, was driving a 2007 Nissan Xterra southbound on U.S. 285 about 10 miles north of Fairplay when a 2008 Nissan Xterra crossed a double yellow line and slammed into her SUV, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The driver of the 2008 Xterra, a 44-year-old man from Oregon, was not named by authorities pending notification of his relatives.

Both drivers died at the scene, the state patrol said.

The crash, which happened at about 12:20 p.m., shut down the highway for several hours.

Betty J. Burwell, 47, of Salida, a passenger in the 2008 Xterra, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood.

Details on her injuries and her condition were not available.

Anderson and Burwell were both wearing seatbelts.

The unidentified driver from Oregon was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
