FORT CARSON, Colo.—Army Secretary Pete Geren says the military has nearly completed a comprehensive study prompted by a string of homicides in which Fort Carson soldiers were implicated.
Geren, in a visit to the post south of Colorado Springs Tuesday, declined to say what the study found.
He says the study is undergoing a final review in the Pentagon and should be released in a matter of weeks.
The visit comes about six months after then-Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., asked Geren to look into a series of homicides in which Iraq veterans at Fort Carson were suspected or convicted.
Colorado lawmakers also told Geren that Fort Carson’s health care system was strained.
Geren says the Army is making progress in addressing post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health issues among returning Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers.
