NEW YORK — Jorge Posada was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained right hamstring that is expected to sideline the Yankees’ all-star catcher for two to three weeks.
Posada was off to an excellent start, batting .312 with five homers and a team-leading 20 RBIs. The Yankees recalled catcher Francisco Cervelli from Double-A Trenton (N.J.).
Ankiel leaves hospital
ST. LOUIS — Cardinals outfielder Rick Ankiel, who barreled headfirst into the outfield wall during Monday’s loss to the Phillies, was released from the hospital after X-rays and a CT scan of his head, neck and back revealed no broken bones. The team postponed a decision whether to place him on the 15-day DL.
“It’s worth waiting a couple of days because there wasn’t anything broken,” manager Tony La Russa said. “Just in case he can go.”
