The Brett Favre Soap Opera, Act II, has officially sprouted wings. ESPN, citing an anonymous source, reported Tuesday that Favre intends to meet with Vikings coach Brad Childress this week to discuss a possible comeback with Minnesota.

Favre has retired twice, first last year with the Green Bay Packers at an emotional news conference, and most recently after finishing out a mediocre season with the New York Jets, when his poor play during a season-ending 1-4 stretch cost the Jets a playoff spot.

Why Minnesota is interested in him is anyone’s guess, but Childress seems enamored with signing Favre. Green Bay filed tampering charges against the Vikings and Childress a year ago, alleging improper contact between Favre and a Vikings assistant coach. The NFL cleared the Vikings of any wrongdoing.

But that didn’t persuade the Vikings to stay away from Favre, 39, who is a free agent and eligible to sign with any team.
