DENVER—Two men convicted of shooting a Commerce City police officer in the leg during a car chase have been sentenced to prison.
Thirty-one-year-old Shane Hotton was sentenced Tuesday to 101 years in prison and 24-year-old Zachary Mathias to 32 years in prison.
An Adams County jury convicted Hotton of three counts of attempted first-degree murder. Mathias pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
The two shot at officer Brandon Zbrowski and other pursuing officers during a 2007 car chase. Police were responding to reports of shots fired when the men sped off in a red Pontiac.
One bullet ripped through the door of Zbrowski’s squad car, striking him in the leg.
Zbrowski recovered and has returned to work.
