Food, folks and, of course, film are the primary focuses for the 31st annual Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride May 22-25.
The big buzz, though, is about the premiere of “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea,” the latest from director Ken Burns and his talented crew — “The Civil War,” “Baseball” — who spent six years touring some of the 58 national treasures to glean 12 hours of movie magic, which Mountainfilm will parcel out in its six two-hour segments over the four- day event.
In addition, the festival will serve up a food symposium emceed by chef Ming Tsai and featuring environmental writer Bill McKibben.
Other films being screened include “Reporter,” director Eric Daniel Metzgar’s documentary about New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Nicholas Kristof and his often harrowing travels, and “The Garden,” the Academy Award-nominated film about the miraculous community garden in South Central Los Angeles.
