LOUISVILLE — Louisville Middle School was evacuated Friday afternoon when asbestos was discovered in part of the building that is under renovation.

School officials are working with environmental consultants to locate the source of the asbestos and design a cleanup plan. The district hopes the school can be reopened by Monday, according to spokesman Briggs Gamblin.

Students moved into portable classrooms Friday afternoon, where school had been held until the new middle school opened last month.

Asbestos was found in the old area of the school, which contained the old library and consumer family studies area. No students were in that section of the building Friday, Gamblin said.
