CHEYENNE — A pilot plant to research ways to use Wyoming coal more cleanly will be built in Laramie County.
The $100 million plant promises to be an economic boon to Cheyenne, where it will be built. The plant is a joint venture between the state of Wyoming and General Electric Co.
The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees unanimously approved the plant’s location Friday.
The plant will allow research into clean processes for turning coal from the Powder River Basin in northeast Wyoming into natural gas.
