CHICAGO—Dave Zelio, assistant bureau chief for The Associated Press in Chicago, has been selected as assistant sports editor for the AP’s Central desk
He will coordinate sports coverage in 14 states, including Nebraska.
The appointment was announced Friday by Lou Ferrara, AP’s managing editor for sports, entertainment and multimedia.
The 40-year-old Zelio joined the AP in Helena, Mont., in 1992. He worked in AP bureaus in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Omaha before spending seven years at the AP’s national desk in New York.
He transferred to Denver in 2003 and was appointed news editor in 2004. He was promoted to the Chicago job two years later.
The Central desk, based in Chicago, is one of four regional hubs being launched by the AP.
