BERN, Switzerland — Russia defended its gold medal at the hockey world championship Sunday, beating Canada 2-1 in a rematch of last year’s final.

Oleg Saprykin had a power-play goal in the first period and Alex Radulov scored in the second for Russia. Jason Spezza gave Canada an early lead.

Sweden won the bronze medal, beating the United States 4-2. Sweden scored all four goals on power plays. The Americans took the lead on Jack Johnson‘s power-play goal in the second and tied the game on Joe Pavelski‘s tally in the third.

• The Chicago Blackhawks will play the European champion Zurich Lions in Switzerland on Sept. 29. The Blackhawks will then travel to Helsinki, Finland, to open the NHL season against the Florida Panthers on Oct. 3-4.

Raiders’ Heyward-Bey sits out

ALAMEDA, Calif. — First-round draft pick Darrius Heyward-Bey sat out the final day of the Oakland Raiders’ minicamp because of a sore hamstring and fatigue. Second- round pick Mike Mitchell and fourth-rounder Louis Murphy also missed the workout for similar reasons.

• Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith says first-round draft pick Peria Jerry has a mild right knee sprain.

Replay OK’d in high school

INDIANAPOLIS — Instant replay has been approved starting next season for last-second shots in high school basketball championship games.

The rule change by the National Federation of State High School Associations allows replays of a shot attempt at the end of the fourth quarter or overtime, and only when the shot would affect the outcome of the game. The rule is not mandatory and leaves the decision whether to use it to each state.

Gasquet disputes positive test

PARIS — French tennis player Richard Gasquet has acknowledged he’s been told he tested positive for cocaine but says he’s innocent.

“I am gathering together proof of my innocence and I will choose an appropriate moment to express myself,” Gasquet said in a statement. He said the “B” sample from the tournament in Key Biscayne, Fla., confirmed the result of the “A” sample taken the same day.

James Blake lost to Albert Montanes 5-7, 7-6 (6), 6-0 in the final of the Estoril Open in Oeiras, Portugal.

Tomas Berdych rallied from four points down in the decisive tiebreaker to beat Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) in the final of the BMW Open in Munich for his first title of the year.

• Top-seeded Novak Djokovic beat Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 7-6 (0) in the Serbia Open final.

• Japan’s Ryosuke Irie set a world record in the men’s 200-meter backstroke in a meet in Canberra, Australia. Irie finished in 1 minute, 52.86 seconds to break the previous record, held by American Ryan Lochte (1:53.94).
