A 23-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to 11 years in prison for breaking into a Greeley home and beating the homeowner.

Jonathan Thompson pleaded guilty April 10 to first-degree burglary with intent to assault, a Class 3 felony, according to the Weld County district attorney’s office.

Thompson broke into the Greeley home Jan. 9 and assaulted a male resident in an unsuccessful attempt to force the victim to go to an ATM and withdraw money, prosecutors said.

On Jan. 30, police received a tip about Thompson’s whereabouts, and he was arrested at his parents’ home.
