DENVER—The Denver district attorney’s office says first-degree murder charges have been filed against a man accused of fatally shooting a convenience store clerk May 2 in south Denver.

Forty-six-year-old Dale Baylis is accused of killing 28-year-old Natnael Mulugeta in an early-morning robbery at a 7-Eleven store.

SWAT officers arrested Baylis on May 6 at his home, two blocks from the convenience store. He is being held without bail at the Denver County Jail.

Mulugeta, an Ethiopian immigrant, was shot in the chest with a rifle. A 7-Eleven spokeswoman has said Mulugeta worked at the store for five years and was working alone when he was shot.

The Denver Post reports that Baylis has an extensive arrest record and that family members have said he is bipolar.
