DENVER—The former administrator of the 100-bed State Veterans Nursing Home at Rifle faces charges of theft and official misconduct for allegedly using state money to pay a maintenance worker to restore a 1951 Cadillac.

Fifty-five-year-old Robert Leslie Shaw appeared in court Friday on two charges of felony theft and one count of first-degree official misconduct.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 13. A call to a number listed for Shaw in Mesa County was not answered and it wasn’t immediately known if he had an attorney.

A grand jury indictment handed up April 29 alleges Shaw improperly paid $7,290 in on-call pay to a maintenance worker to restore a 61 Series Cadillac.
