LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Thompson Valley’s girls broke three records Saturday en route to the school’s second straight Class 4A championship at the Colorado state track and field meet.

Liz Tremblay ran the 400-meter dash in 55.19, eclipsing the 55.25 4A meet record set by Widefield’s Nyeisha Wright in 2006. Tremblay, a senior who finished third in the race last year, beat defending 400-meter champ Emily Blok, who ran the race in 55.75.

Less than an hour later, Liz’s sister, Laura Tremblay, set the 4A state meet record in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:54.59. The old record, 4:56.08, was set in 2006 by Ralston Valley’s Katie Vannatta.

Thompson Valley, from Loveland, set a record for the second straight year in the 1,600-meter relay, finishing in 3:50.74. The team ran the race in 3:54.45 to set the record last year.

The Eagles from the Northern League dominated the three-day event, scoring 101 points. Lewis-Palmer was second with 69 points, Alamosa had 60, Widefield posted 46 and Mullen finished the top five with 43 points.

Despite losing the 400-meter dash to Liz Tremblay, Blok had an impressive finish to her high school track and field career, winning her third-straight 100-meter dash in 12.01. The victory was the seventh state championship for the Conifer senior, who won her third 200-meter final on Friday.

In the boys’ competition, Mullen’s Elliott Beski cleared the bar at 14 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault, lifting the Mustangs to their 12th state boys track and field championship in school history.

Beski’s victory in the final boys Class 4A event of the day, added 10 points to Mullen’s team score, giving the Mustangs at total of 59. The tally was enough to edge second-place finisher Sierra, which had 57 points. Castle View finished with 52 1/2 points, while last year’s champ Longmont and Lewis-Palmer were in the top five with 45 and 44 points, respectively.

Mullen’s other individual champion Saturday was Andrew Berberick, who won the 1,600 meters in 4:14.23.

Sierra’s Kelby Dias finished his high school career with eight state titles, including his third straight in the 300-meter hurdles. He ran the race in 37.75 Saturday. The Colorado Springs-area senior also won his third consecutive 110-hurdles and second straight long-jump competition on Friday.
