Put him in a clutch situation and Brad Hawpe turns into Brad Hot. With a single in the first and a sacrifice fly in the third, Hawpe improved to 15-for-30 with runners in scoring position this season. Since the start of the 2007 season, Hawpe has 51 go-ahead RBIs.

Though approximately a month away from pitching in the big leagues, reliever Taylor Buchholz (elbow) made progress by throwing six curveballs in a bullpen session. He will throw again Monday.

Aaron Cook’s bid to win consecutive starts for the first time this season ended after just five outs. After the lengthy rain delay, Cook was pulled in favor of new long reliever Matt Belisle, who allowed one run in 3 1/3 innings.
