Garrett Atkins’ slump has created more playing time at second base for Clint Barmes. Barmes is superior defensively at second to Ian Stewart, Atkins’ replacement at third, but committed a costly error Tuesday. His failure to field a high-hopping groundball from Jeff Francoeur opened the door for Atlanta’s three-run second inning.
Center of attention.
In his best defensive game this season, center fielder Dexter Fowler threw out a pair of Braves, nailing Brian McCann at second base and Jordan Schafer at home.
Tough draw.
The Braves rank 20th in attendance, and few are turning out for this series. The paid crowd of 15,364 on Monday was the lowest in Turner Field history.
