WINDSOR, Colo.—Insurance companies say the tornado that ravaged northern Colorado last year and killed one person was the costliest ever in the state.
The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association says the tornado cost more than $193 million from 24,000 auto and homeowner claims. Friday will be the first anniversary of the tornado that hit northern Colorado with winds between 136 and 165 mph.
Fifty-two-year-old Oscar Manchester was killed at a campground near Greeley.
In Windsor, 80 homes were destroyed and 770 others were damaged.
Before last year, Colorado costliest tornado happened in 1990 in Limon, about 90 miles east of Denver. That tornado caused $20 million in damages.
