BRIGHTON, Colo.—The Adams County Sheriff’s Department says an inmate died after she was found hanging in a cell at the county jail.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Candi Baker says 37-year-old Kristie Hawkes of Thornton died Thursday. Baker says Hawkes’ cellmate found her hanging in their cell on Monday.

An investigation is under way. Baker says there is no indication of foul play.

Thornton police arrested Hawkes on May 10. She was being held on warrants from Denver and from Adams and Jefferson counties. The warrants listed probation and traffic violations and said she failed to comply with an intervention program on a forgery charge.

Baker says Hawkes also faced forgery, impersonation and drug-related charges in Thornton.
