“The Wall Street Journal Guide to Power Travel: How to Arrive with Your Dignity, Sanity, and Wallet Intact” ($16.99, HarperCollins) compiles some of the best advice from “Middle Seat” columnist Scott McCartney. The topics include airline tickets, frequent-flier rewards, baggage issues, bumping and upgrades and insider tips on booking hotels and cruises. As with McCartney’s columns, the information is straightforward and sound, well-researched and based largely on the private pilot and longtime journalist’s personal experience, with good explanations of the behind-the-scenes of travel industry operations, which can go a long way toward helping in that sanity department when things aren’t going so well.
