GREENSBURG, Kan.—A head-on collision involving a tractor-trailer in southwest Kansas has left two people dead.

The Highway Patrol says both victims were in a pickup truck pulling a stock trailer on U.S. 54 just east of Greensburg.

They’re identified as 53-year-old Peggy Birney of Bucklin, and her passenger, 32-year-old Jennifer McDonald of Wellington, Colo.

The collision shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday. The patrol says the tractor-trailer was westbound when it blew a front steering axle tire and crossed into the eastbound lanes, hitting the pickup head-on.

The driver of the semi was taken a hospital in Wichita.
