FLORENCE, Colo.—An autopsy is scheduled Friday on the body of a U.S. Penitentiary inmate who had been stabbed several times and was found unresponsive in his cell.
Florence Correctional Complex spokeswoman Leann LaRiva says 61-year-old Christopher Anderson was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday morning. Staff members tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Fremont County Coroner Dorothy Twellman says Anderson sustained multiple stab wounds. She said it appeared Anderson had only been at the prison for two days when he was found.
LaRiva says the FBI has launched an investigation.
Anderson was serving a 17-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter and bank robbery.
