SEOUL, South Korea — Former South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun died today after a fall while mountain climbing.

A lawyer for the family said Roh left behind a suicide note.

Yonhap news agency quoted police as saying that Roh, 62, died after falling into a ravine while hiking with an aide in the mountains near his home region in the south of the country.

He suffered severe head injuries and died after being transported from his hometown of Gimhae to a hospital in the southern city of Busan, the report said.

Roh, a human-rights lawyer, has been under investigation in a bribery scandal over allegations that he took more than $6 million from a businessman while in office. He served as South Korea’s president from 2003 to 2008.
