A 71-year-old man was killed on C-470 early this morning when he drove his pickup into a bridge abutment beneath Colorado Boulevard, authorities say.

Burl C. Jensen of Lone Tree was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sgt. John Hahn, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.

The man was driving his light brown 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck west on C-470 at 5:47 a.m. when his truck veered into the center median and struck the concrete bridge abutment, Hahn said.

Troopers are investigating what caused the single-vehicle fatal accident, he said.

Westbound lanes of C-470 were closed for several hours for the investigation and to clear the highway, Hahn said.
