The winner: Carrie Casals, Tabernash:
The pink flamingo is located at Indian Peaks Rental, between Tabernash and Granby. The owner gave it to his wife for her 50th birthday. Since she had no place for it in her house, they decided to hoist it up on a platform lift, so drivers could see it as they went by. The original flamingo fell apart, so the current bird is a replacement.
Tom Skelding, Englewood: The big bird is at Indian Peaks Rentals, just north of Tabernash. It probably flew up there to try to get away from all the development in the valley.
Steve Meyer, Parker: I think of the bird as the Overhead Surveillance and Security System for Indian Peaks Rental.
Anne Bensard, Fraser: This very pink bird is located just outside of Tabernash, relaxing atop an aerial work platform at Indian Peaks Equipment Rental. People from all over Grand County can swing by to rent anything from construction equipment to carpet cleaners to party chairs and tables. Though a little out of its native environment, this flamingo sure enjoys some awesome scenery. Its perch can rise up to 150 feet, which gives it a wonderful view of US 40, Snow Mountain Ranch, Pole Creek Golf Course, and Byers Peak in the distance.
Valerie and Charlie Walling, Ken Caryl: We just saw this when we were riding our bikes from Fraser to Grand Lake on U.S. 40. This huge pink bird greeted us from high up on a cherry picker at an equipment rental place between Tabernash and Granby. One of the fun scenes we experienced on a great ride.
John and Angela Barnhart, Golden: The very, very big pink bird can be found in beautiful Grand County, Colorado. Specifically, it is located near the summit of Red Dirt Hill between the towns of Tabernash and Granby. Its home is on top of a boom lift, where it watches over the Indian Peaks Rental Business. From his perch, he has a spectacular view of the Continental Divide and the Winter Park Ski Area.
Kent Hobbs, Littleton: We just bought a house in the subdivision behind the rental yard, and saw the bird this past Saturday as we were driving to Grand Lake to hike the (great!) Adams Fall trail. My wife thought it was the Pink Panther and my kids immediately yelled it was a flamingo.
