Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two men in the shooting late Friday night of two other men in a Grand Junction home, authorities say.
The victims, Clinton Waters, 24, and Anthony Garcia, 36, were rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital each with multiple gunshot wounds, said Chuck Warner, spokesman for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
Waters was shot three times in the abdomen and was listed in critical condition. Garcia was shot in his left leg near the groin and on the right side of his ribcage and was listed in stable condition.
Police were called to 297 Boston Lane at 10:09 p.m. after a neighbor heard gun shots, a police report stated.
A sheriff’s deputy found a cell phone near the home where the shootings occurred and traced the phone as being registered to one of the alleged assailants, Tommy Perez, 25, of Parachute. Records show that telephone made four calls to Waters the date of the assault.
Perez and his brother, Joshua Perez, 22, were both arrested. Tommy Perez has been charged with accessory to commit second-degree murder and accessory to commit first-degree assault. Joshua Perez has been charged with criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder and first-degree assault. A third individual, who was present at the time of the shooting, has not yet been located.
Deputies are investigating what motivated the shootings, Warner said. The alleged firearm was recovered.
A woman who lived next door to the home where the shootings happened had an anxiety attack and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Warner said.
