ST. LOUIS—The Kansas City Royals made three moves before Sunday’s game, placing right-hander Robinson Tejada and infielder Mike Aviles on the 15-day disabled list and optioning right-hander Luke Hochevar to Triple-A Omaha.
Kansas City had lost 11 of 14 entering Sunday’s interleague game against the Cardinals.
Hochevar, the first overall pick of the 2006 draft, allowed four runs in 6 1-3 innings in Saturday’s 5-0 loss. He’s 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA in three starts covering 11 2-3 innings.
Tejada, 0-0 with a 2.65 ERA in 12 relief appearances, has right rotator cuff tendinitis and was placed on the DL retroactive to Thursday. Aviles, batting .183 in 120 at-bats with one homer and eight RBIs, has a right forearm strain.
The Royals purchased the contract of right-hander Roman Colon from Omaha, recalled infielder Tug Hulett from Omaha and activated left-hander John Bale (thyroid surgery) from the DL.
