FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State University’s College of Engineering plans to lay off about 40 employees and eliminate some vacant staff positions in an effort to cut $700,000 from its department budget this fall.
Engineering Dean Sandra Woods says the cuts are part of a 5 percent reduction to the department’s $14 million budget. Woods says officials are trying to protect student programs when considering what to cut.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan says the university plans to eliminate six staff positions or reduce the hours of those jobs.
Other university departments are expected to publicize their budget plans in the coming weeks. CSU is Larimer County’s second largest employer.
