BOULDER, Colo.—Tilahun Regassa of Ethiopia won the men’s division of the Bolder Boulder today in the fastest time since 1995, surprising even his coach.

The 19-year-old finished in 28 minutes, 17 seconds. His 25-year-old teammate, Mamito Daska, won the women’s division in 32 minutes, 48 seconds.

Ethiopia team manager Hussen MacKay says the pair was not expected to win because they are young in terms of their running careers.

Regassa’s time was third-best in race history.

Tadese Tola of Ethiopia finished second overall in 28 minutes 36 seconds. James Carney was the top U.S. finisher, coming in fourth.
