Pueblo authorities are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2009 after a man was fatally beaten.
At about 10:30 a.m. Monday, officers were called to 3461 Baltimore Ave., No. 3, on a report of a body, police said in a media release.
When police arrived, they found 44-year-old Mario Lopez dead in bed. Lopez suffered “obvious trauma” to his face and upper body, police said.
Police said they were called to the same apartment Sunday night on a domestic-violence call but that Lopez had left the apartment before officers arrived. The alleged domestic violence victim is not being identified by The Denver Post.
After the reported domestic-violence disturbance on Baltimore, Lopez went to a local tavern and got into a fight with 23-year-old Vincent Edwin Allen Bouzek.
Police said Bouzek fought with Lopez after learning of the earlier domestic dispute.
It’s not clear how Lopez made it back to his home after the fight.
Bouzek, police said, has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
