A stolen-car “chop shop” was busted Monday after Colorado Springs officers followed a LoJack signal to a home, police said.
Three men and two women were arrested at about 11:35 a.m. Monday at 1625 Keith Drive, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department’s crime blotter.
At least two officers followed LoJack signals after a blue Subaru WRX was reported stolen at about 10:15 a.m. from Colorado Car Connection, 915 Motor City Drive, police said.
When police arrived at the address on Keith Drive, witnesses told them a Subaru had just been driven into the garage of the home.
Police surrounded the home and stopped five people when they tried to leave.
Officers found a “second stolen car” in the backyard of the property, and one of the suspects was “manufacturing keys” to steal Subarus, police said. Investigators also found counterfeit $100 bills during the bust, police said.
Police identified those arrested as Mercedes Marquez-Moss, Anthony Moore, Shawn Moore, Jeff Putzi and Michelle Putzi.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
