Flexible, thin-film photovoltaic modules made by Ascent Solar Technologies Inc. will be designed into the development of a hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle called the Silent Sentinel, the Thornton company announced Tuesday.
The hybrid vehicle, developed by Bye Aerospace Inc. of Greenwood Village, is designed primarily for military use, although it also will have civil applications.
Silent Sentinel will use an advanced Williams International FJ33 turbofan to provide steep climbs and high-altitude quick access for surveillance missions such as by border patrol, search and rescue, and visual and thermal reconnaissance.
